Hubert Frederick Burgess (1864-1945) served as a Sunday School missionary in Oregon. Collection consists of ordination minutes of the First Congregational Church of Portland, 1892; a manuscript diary, 1892; newspaper clippings, 1891-1893, regarding Burgess's work in Oregon; typescript reminiscences, 1934, regarding his wedding trip in 1894; and a funeral notice, 1945.

Abstract

Clement G. Clarke was pastor of the First Congregational Church, Portland, Oregon, 1923-1928. Before coming to Portland, he had been forced to resign from positions in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Peoria, Illinois. Collection consists of typescript carbon copies of newspaper articles from Minneapolis and Peoria, 1911-1915, regarding Clarke's activities as pastor in those communities, and telegrams to the Oregonian, 1926-1928, regarding Clarke's character.
